How to get the custard apple flesh:
  • Wash the ripe custard apples in water. Dry them with a cloth. Now open it up and peel the Fleshy pulp from the seeds. This is a tedious process but well worth the effort, believe me.
  •  You will have to peel the flesh from each and every seed. Collect the pulp in an airtight container. 
  • Around 8 -10 custard apples will give you 2 cups of flesh. This is the only time-consuming part. After this everything is quick and easy. 
  • Store the container in the freezer until it is ready to use.
  •  An easier method is that soak the custard apple flesh overnight in the milk in the refrigerator.
  •  Next day strain and discard the seeds. Nothing messy or time-consuming about it and the ice cream is absolutely delicious.

Ingredients for making custard apple or Sugar-apple ice cream ( eggless)

  • 1 tin condensed milk
  • 2 tins milk cream or dairy-free topping
  • 1 tin custard apple puree
  • 1 tin custard apple flesh
  • use condensed milk tin for measurement
Method for making custard apple or Sugar-apple ice cream ( eggless) :

  1. Empty can of condensed milk and 1 tin Sugar-apple (custard apple) flesh in a blender and make a fine puree.
  2. Add cream and use the whisk button ( on & off ). Be careful not to whisk too much like the milk cream ( not soya cream ) may turn to butter!
  3. Once fully blended, remove from blender and fold the remaining 1 cup custard apple segments/ flesh. 
  4. Mix well with a spatula and pour it into an airtight freezer box and freeze overnight or till firm.
  5. Serve in scoops or slices into large individual bowls! Small ones just won't do!
  6.  A must-try for all dessert lovers.
